Not Lying Down
Huntington's Disease (HD) is a degenerative neurological hereditary disorder caused by a faulty gene for a protein called huntingtin. I have this mutation and thus a 100% chance of experiencing HD's symptoms—depression, anxiety, cognitive difficulties, and the uncoordinated movements that can make me look drunk (unless, of course, God heals me or I die of something else first). You can learn more about HD at this link.
I wrote "HD Blues" for my Dallas/Fort Worth HD support group. A psychologist told me that this is sublimation: diverting the energy caused by suffering to a positive social, moral, or aesthetic use. This web site's all about sublimating, baby. HD may knock us down, but we'll get back up (with a lot of help from our friends).
